about

Opening The Language of Birds by The Hot Place, is the cinematic “Petals of Ruin,” featuring an on-edge Mini Korg synth line mixed with a paisley whiff of 12 string guitars.

LK: "Petals of Ruin is about overcoming negativity and the disintegration of old habits of being. I really wanted to capture a gothy post-punk vibe mixed with a bit of a euro spy-thrilling vintage synth part. We ran my bass though a distortion pedal, and it's really big and menacing. Yet, the vocal is rather delicate, and there are some chimey 12 string accents throughout the song, which add some contrast. The highlight is definitely the ripping guitar solo that Jeff Calder performs in the song. I think he can put his boot up on the monitors during that instrumental break!"

lyrics

PETALS OF RUIN

Petals of Ruin slide past my skin

Petals of Ruin, you know it's the end

Petals of Ruin blow slowly away

Patterns they blew in, what could they say?

I'm not saying that you'll never fear

I'm not saying I'll never be near

I'm not saying that you're not afraid

I'm not saying that it's too late

Petals of Ruin blow slowly away

Patterns they blew in, well what could they say?

I'm not saying that you'll never fear

I'm not saying I'll never be near

I'm not saying that you're not afraid

I'm not saying that it's too late

Petals of Ruin blow slowly away

Patterns they blew in, what could they say?

Petals of Ruin, how softly they fall

Petals of Ruin- nothing at all

I'll never be near

Oh it's too late

Petals of Ruin, how softly they fall

Petals of Ruin, you're nothing at all

You're nothing at all
