Lisa grew up listening to her Dad’s Ventures’ albums, which influenced the Spanish surf bending of “Really Not True”.
LK: "It’s a bullfight throwdown, like a matador with a Jazzmaster in a Picasso etching. It has a very post-punk driving bassline, and Jeff Calder added his Jazzmaster surf-solo stylings to the song, which really made it come alive. Mike Lynn's chimey and alarm-toned Fender Deluxe Reverb/Vintage Stratocaster and Big Muff pedal guitar part, and my HH Amp/Telecaster buzzy growl mix together to get what I would call our "classic" Lisa/Mike guitar sound. I love Robert Schmid's drums on this. They are very reminiscent of Love & Rockets, around their "Express" record time period. And the group vocals which escalate at the end of the song are very Floydian. Definitely one of my favorite rockers on the album."
lyrics
REALLY NOT TRUE
I see the way, way that you look at me
I see the light in your eyes
And the way, way that you talk to me
I like to play this game with you
They say you love me too
But it's really not true
Eight ways, make a move
But it's really not true
I'd tell you everything I knew
But its really not true
Please say you love me too
But it's really not true
To have you standing next to me
Is all it takes to make me high
To have you is better than anything
All I want is to make you smile
